SCIS Classrooms (Special Class in an Integrated Setting)

Our SCIS Classrooms bring children with and without developmental needs together in an inclusive, welcoming environment. These integrated classrooms run five days a week for 2½ hours per day and are led by two New York State–licensed teachers.

SCIS students receive all four core therapeutic services offered in our EI groups, woven into their daily classroom routines:

  • Special Instruction

  • Physical Therapy (PT)

  • Occupational Therapy (OT)

  • Speech-Language Pathology (SLP)

In addition, children participate in:

  • A music enrichment program, and

  • Monthly movement and fitness programming provided through our partnership with My Gym Children’s Fitness Center.

Why integrated classrooms matter:

Inclusive early childhood settings help children learn from one another, build empathy, and develop strong social-emotional skills. Children with developmental needs benefit from natural peer models, while typically developing children gain confidence, compassion, and leadership skills. Research consistently shows that high-quality inclusive classrooms promote positive developmental outcomes for all learners.

Our SCIS classrooms are also open to typical peer enrollment.
